Conjunctivitis  in Dogs and cats 


Conjunctivitis  is the inflammation of eye of dog or cat .

Causes of Conjunctivitis  :

1- Injury of the eye or foreign body contact with the eye.

2-Bacterial or viral infections .

3- Environmental conditions such as excessive heat , lack of ventilation and allergy .

4- Some eye diseases : Glaucoma and lack of lubrication of the eye  .

5- Insects and parasites : eye worm 


Signs of Conjunctivitis  in Dogs and cats  :

1- Clear or green discharge from the affected eye .

2- Redness of the eye which is called " Pink eye "

3- Swollen eye .

4- May affect sight of your dog ,

5- Some restlessness and itching in the eye .

4- In bacterial and viral infections there might be fever ,


Treatment of Conjunctivitis  in Dogs and cats :

First thing is to consult your veterinarian to treat the cause of this conjunctivitis   

1- Treatment of the cause e.g: allergy, trauma,infection or insects etc ...

2- washing the eye with saline is very useful in these cases .

3- Anti-inflammatory and antibiotics eye drugs is sued ,

4- Avoid environmental conditions that may cause irritation of the eye of your pet.

5- Systemic antibiotics mat be used 

All these drugs are used under veterinarian supervision ....so please contact your vet first
