Definition of Infectious Canine Hepatitis:
Infectious canine hepatitis is acute highly contagious
disease of dogs characterized by sudden fever , hepatitis , Conjunctivitis and vomiting in young dogs and apparent signs in adult .
It is caused by canine hepatitis virus which is canine
adenovirus type 1 CAV-1.
Signs of Infectious Canine Hepatitis:

Incubation period : 4-7
days
-
High fever 38- 41 C .
-
Thirst , Depression and
anorexia .

Tonsilitis , Pharyngitis
and nasal disvharge.
-
Conjunctivitis with eye
discharge and cloidness of the cornea “ Blus eye “
-
Vomiting .
-
Abdominal pain and Cough .
Diagnosis of Infectious Canine Hepatitis :
-
From clinical signs “ Fever, conjunctivitis ,vomiting and
hepatitis .
-
FAT to detect antigen in
specimen .
-
ALT , CFT , HI .
Treatment of Infectious Canine Hepatitis :
-
Symptomatic Treatment .
-
Hepatitis antiserum can be
used .
-
Glucose and saline .
-
Anti-inflammatory .
-
Wide spectrum antibiotics is used for 3 days
to avoid secondary infections .
Prevention and control of Infectious Canine Hepatitis :
-
Live attenuated CAV vaccine
: give immunity for 3 years.
-
Mixed vaccine including
Distemper, ICH and Measles.
-
Recovered animals develop
lasting immunity.
