Feline Infectious Peritonitis
Feline Infectious Peritonitis or Feline corona virus
infection.
Definition of Feline Infectious Peritonitis:
It is acute infectious disease if cats characterized by insidious
onset, persistent fever, weight loss, rough hair coat and accumulation of
exudative pyogranulomus secretions in body cavities.
Cause of Feline Infectious Peritonitis:
FIP virus “Feline Corona Virus”
Clinical Signs of Feline Infectious Peritonitis:
- High morbidity and low mortality in young cats.
- Weight loss and emaciation.
- Dullness and lazy cat movement,
- Rough hair coat.
- Anorexia.
- Fever: persistent and untreated.
- Ocular inflammation and ophthalmitis .
- Icterus.
- Accumulation of pus and granulomatous secretions in body
cavities and abdomen.
Diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis:

Clinical signs “weight loss. accumulation of liquids in
body cavities, rough hair coat and fever”

Lab Diagnosis: PCR and Virus Isolation.
Treatment of Feline Infectious Peritonitis:

No specific treatment is shown to be effective.

Corticosteroids may be injected subconjunctival to reduce
ocular signs.
Prevention and Control of Feline Infectious Peritonitis:

Modified live attenuated vaccine given intranasal.

Isolation of infected animals.
-
Disinfection of premises and hygienic measures.
