Aki : A Cute Dog with leg swelling
Hello and welcome back my dear Followers and Pet lovers
Today will Tell you about Aki Case
Meet Aki
Aki was a healthy ,playful and lovely Dog , As you can in the Pic
Few days ago Aki left back paw is swollen. and the owner tried using cold water to reduce the swelling, but something suddenly popped under its paw and then blood flowed out. Essentially, a hole formed on the bottom of its paw where the blood is coming from. And she treated it with Betadine, but the next day, the swelling got worse and it now also has a puncture wound on the top. So now there are two spots where blood is leaking out.
As you can see in this pic the swelling ,
also in this pic
And here is a clear pic of the swelling ,
After checking Aki legs and the history of the swelling and it was PUNCTURED and blood or exudates is coming out of the wound , all of these signs indicate that Aki has Abscess and Eventually the abscess was drained .
We prescribed some medication for Aki
Antibiotics to prevent secondary infection and help in healing of the wound and clear the current infection .
Anti-inflammatory for pain relief .
Locally disinfection to keep wound clean and not infected .
Multivitamins and immuno-support .
And here some common causes of dog leg swelling and abscess :
Okay, here are brief and simple notes on what can cause an abscess in a dog's leg:
Puncture Wounds: This is the most common cause. Something sharp (thorn, nail, broken glass, bite from another animal) pokes the skin, trapping bacteria inside.
Bites from Other Animals: Especially cat bites, which are deep and often get infected quickly. Dog bites also common.
Foreign Objects: A splinter, grass awn (foxtail), or other small object gets under the skin and causes infection.
Scratches/Scrapes: Even small skin breaks can let bacteria in if they don't heal cleanly.
Infected Hair Follicles (Folliculitis): Sometimes a deep skin infection around a hair can turn into an abscess.
Anal Gland Issues (if near the rear leg/thigh): A ruptured or severely infected anal gland can sometimes cause an abscess that drains near the upper rear leg. (Less common specifically in the leg itself, but worth mentioning if the location is ambiguous).
Injection Site Reactions: Less common, but sometimes an injection site can become infected and form an abscess.
And for sure treatment plan may differ according to the main cause
