What is the cause of frequent cat sneezing and running the cats' nose?

Cats are infected with many types of rhinitis (cat's catarrh), because the cats' nose is very sensitive and can get irritated and cats start to sneeze for the simplest reasons.

So you may notice sometimes some symptoms of sneezing or flu on your cat, which disappear quickly and do not need any treatment.

But if you start to notice that your adult cat or small cat is suffering from flu and severe, you should know the cause and make sure they are not sick.

There are a lot of symptoms of flu in cats or so-called cat influenza so if you notice some symptoms associated with the addition of sneezing and runny noise , you should pay attention to these symptoms as it may indicate that your cat is diseased from these signs is  :

Existence of secretions from the eyes or nose

Loss of appetite or unwillingness to eat

Behavioral changes such as severe inactivity

The presence of ulcers inside the mouth or on the tongue

Simple or severe vomiting

Is Cats Flu Contagious to Humans? Is human influenza contagious to cats?

Viruses that cause influenza and flu to humans are human-only viruses, so it is very rare for these viruses to infect cats, so human influenza is not contagious to cats.

So if you are wondering whether the cats flu is infectious to humans, the answer in general is not, except in very rare cases.

Cats are infected with their own viruses, such as herpes virus in cats or calci virus, and they also get some bacterial infections that cause influenza symptoms in cats which are very similar to the symptoms of influenza in humans.

Upper respiratory infections (influenza, sneezing, or flu) can infect adult cats, but appear more often in younger cats. As shown in adult cats whose vaccination is neglected.

What causes flu in small and large cats?

Flu in small or large cats are both caused by a viral infection of certain types of viruses. Herpes virus in cats, and the calisthenic virus are the two most common types of viruses that cause influenza symptoms in cats.

Sometimes it can develop into a secondary bacterial infection that may lead to 
pneumonia in cats .

Treatment of cat influenza : 


Once you notice some influenza symptoms in cats, you must take certain steps to ensure that the infection does not worsen or the progress of the infection . These steps are as follows:


1 - Clean the eyes and nose from any discharge  using wet towel with warm water.

2 - Give your cat some warm foods, such as a small dish of chicken soup or meat with pieces of chicken mashed or shredded easy to digest.

3- Place a clean water dish in front of your cat and change it every two hours.

4. In some cases the cats will improve and you will notice it and will not need any additional treatment. But some cases are developing rapidly.

5 - It is advised to give some drugs containing the active ingredient Cefalxin, which is a treatment for bacterial infections, but we do not recommend give any drugs without examination by a specialist veterinarian.

6. If the cat becomes unwilling to eat completely or if the condition deteriorates, consult your veterinarian.

How your veterinarian diagnoses influenza in cats

The veterinarian will examine the cat physically and will often be able to know the cause of the disease and infection in the upper respiratory system without any problem. It will also prescribe appropriate treatment based on the severity of the condition.

If your cat does not respond and recover from the flu, your doctor may perform additional tests such as blood or CT scans to determine the cause of the symptoms on your cat.

How to treat Influenza and flu in cats ?

If your cat is diagnosed as a bacterial infection, your veterinarian will give you some antibiotics that help to overcome the disease.

If the infection is viral, the veterinarian will administer drugs that increase the immunity of the cat and its resistance to the disease.

Your veterinarian will recommend some supplements if your cat does not eat or if she is suffering from dehydration. It may also describe some solutions that help the cat to life.

Recovery period of illness :

 - During treatment, always keep your cat's nose and eyes clean. - Clean any secretions in the eye or nose as this will help to speed healing.

- Use a paper towel moistened with daffy water for this purpose.

- Warm water vapor can also be used to help breathe from the nose and clean the breathing pathways.

- You should also ensure that your cat is eating the food normally. If the cat loses appetite, you should get some intravenous solutions to compensate for the lack of food.

- Cats that do not eat for several days may have serious complications in the liver, so you should pay attention.

How can influenza or cat flu be prevented?

To prevent influenza or cat flu first you must ensure prevention of viruses which occurs when cats are vaccinated. On a yearly basis, catheterization for cats helps to protect the cat for a whole year from viruses that cause colds in cats, which are considered deadly viruses such as calci virus Or herpes virus.
