Fur Parents Complaint :
" Good afternoon, I would like to consult about our Dog, who is about 8-9 years old. Recently, we noticed a change in his appetite. Also, whenever we wash his body, he always try to scratch his ears after. Today, upon inspection, we saw that his right ear is swollen (see photo attached). I would like to ask what his diet should be and what medicine to give to alleviate the discomfort/swelling of his ears. Thank you so much in advance! "Treatment :
The treatment of ear infections in dogs typically depends on the underlying cause and severity of the infection. Here are some common treatments for ear infections in dogs:
Antibiotics: If the ear infection is caused by bacteria, antibiotics may be prescribed by your veterinarian. It is important to administer the full course of antibiotics as directed, even if your dog starts to feel better.
Anti-fungal medication: If the ear infection is caused by a fungus, anti-fungal medication may be prescribed by your veterinarian.
Ear cleaning: Your veterinarian may recommend cleaning your dog's ears to help remove debris, wax, and other material that may be contributing to the infection. They may provide you with an ear cleaning solution and demonstrate how to clean your dog's ears safely.
Steroids: If your dog has significant inflammation or discomfort, your veterinarian may prescribe steroids to help reduce inflammation and relieve discomfort.
Pain medication: In some cases, your veterinarian may prescribe pain medication to help manage pain and discomfort associated with the ear infection.
Address underlying conditions: In some cases, ear infections may be a symptom of an underlying condition such as allergies or hypothyroidism. If your veterinarian suspects an underlying condition, they may recommend further testing or treatment.
It's important to follow your veterinarian's instructions for treating your dog's ear infection, and to keep all follow-up appointments. Ear infections can be stubborn and may require ongoing treatment to fully resolve.
